Ammonite fossils from Madagascar are famed for their vivid colors and intricate patterns. Dating from the Mesozoic Era (200–66 million years ago), these marine mollusks had spiral, chambered shells. Madagascar's past as part of Gondwana and a marine environment favored ammonite abundance. Over time, sedimentation and mineralization replaced their shells with calcite, aragonite, and iron oxides, creating striking reds, oranges, and browns. Discovered in the early 20th century, these fossils are valued scientifically and artistically.
